Frequently Asked Questions

When will I receive my order?
It depends on where you are based in Wellington, but we deliver everyday, with a cut off time for orders at 3pm on the same day. We will need from you to leave a mobile number so we can contact you as soon as we have your order ready to coordinate the delivery.

Do you deliver New Zealand wide?
At the moment we only deliver to some parts of the Wellington Region. For more details, please refer to the delivery page on our website.

Can I nominate a day for delivery in advance?
Sure, that will make things easier on both end, aye? If you have a specific date you would like your order to be delivered on, just write it down in the comment sections when checking out and we will contact you to set the best time possible on that date.

Do you deliver on public holidays?
Definitely yes: public holidays are always better with empanadas. Trust us. :D

What are the delivery costs?
Delivery costs range from $3 to $8 depending on where you are based in the Wellington Region. Please, check out our delivery page to find out more.

How do I bake my empanadas?
1- Make sure you pre-heat your oven to 240°C, with the grill OFF.
2- Line a tray with baking paper.
3- Place Divinas frozen empanadas on the tray, trying not to crowd them.
4- Bake for 15 minutes (standard-sized)/ 10 minutes (cocktail-sized) or until golden.

** Beware of those delicious but hot juices! We don't want you burning yourself! **

How should I store my empanadas?
1- Store in freezer in their original packaging (-18°C).
2- Do not thaw before baking. Do not leave outside the freezer.
3- If accidentally thawed, keep in the fridge and bake within 2 (two) days.
4- Always check “best before” date as marked on packaging.

Should I thaw my empanadas before baking them?
No, you should definitely not thaw your empanadas. Instead, bake them straight from freezer to oven. That will keep them juicy and with a crunchy crust.

Can I cook my empanadas in the microwave?
Our empanadas have been specially developed for gas or electric ovens, so we discourage cooking them in a microwave, as they might end up soggy and bland.

Can I bake my empanadas without pre-heating the oven?
Technically you can, but they will become mushy and limp, and your Divinas experience will be ruined. A pre-heated oven seals the dough right away, giving it a crunch and encapsulating the amazing juices of our filling.

Do your empanadas contain any allergens?
Yes, they do. Our dough is made of biological wheat flour, and we also use butter and milk in the making; some of our flavors may contain egg in them too; some of them contain nuts also.

Although we take a lot of steps to minimize cross-contamination between our fillings, our products are not safe to ingest by people any other type of allergies.

Are Divinas empanadas gluten-free?
No, they are not. Although we are testing a lot of different gluten-free doughs we have not yet been able to develop a gluten-free dough that works well for our products. Also, our facilities are not appropriate to avoid gluten cross- contamination.

How are your empanadas made? Where do you source ingredients from?
At Divinas, we make our dough and our fillings by hand, from scratch, following strict hygiene conditions.

Almost all of our ingredients are sourced from New Zealand as we believe in the importance of supporting the kiwi community. This translates in great quality, full natural flavours, natural colours, and no added preservatives.

We stay way clear from the nasty stuff (hydrogenated vegetable oils, toxic additives, denatured ingredients, fillers, etc.) so you can enjoy and share a tasty and honest meal.

What kind of ingredients do you use in the making?
All of the chicken we use for our empanadas is free-range and antibiotics-free. All the red meat we use is grass-fed, mostly free of hormones, antibiotics, GMOs and farmed with minimal pesticide use. All of the flour we use is biologically grown in the South Island. We also use GE-free tomatoes and GM-free red campsicum.

What kind of fats do you use in the making of Divinas empanadas?
We use ghee and butter, which translates into great flavour. We don’t use any hydrogenated or refined vegetable oils as they affect the taste of our final product, and are also detrimental to your health.

Is the filling raw or cooked?
All fillings are cooked under strict hygiene condition. Under this same conditions all empanadas are frozen right away.

Can your empanadas be refronzen once they have thawed?
For health & safety reasons Divinas empanadas must never be refrozen if thawed. They should be cooked right away -if possible- or be kept in the fridge for no more than two days since thawed.

Do you sell any dips for the empanadas?
Not at the momento, but you can always check our friends' at Apostle Hot Sauce as theirs are awesome. :)
